Unfortunately, they didn't do that, just fully opened with a grand opening ceremony.
They were behind schedule on the build so couldn't do as much testing with people as they wanted

We went on this today. Arrived through the gates of the park just before 11 and went straight to join the queue which was well organised and started in The Lost Continent. Once 12 came the ride opened and the queue moved very quickly to the entrance in Hogsmead. Very well organised and no queue jumping you could get to the lockers and the moved quickly through the outside queuing area. All was going well and we got to about 40 minutes from the ride after about 1 hour when a storm came. Everything stopped for around 2 hours while the storm cleared but again it was well organised and you could leave the queue through the exit to go to the bathroom or get something to eat and rejoin the rest of your party. Once the ride reopened everything moved quickly again and we eventually got on the ride about 4pm. We all agreed that it was worth it though. Great ride and would queue another couple of hours to go it again. We’d already had two days in Universal with express passes and so we went today especially to do this ride so we all left happy in the end. Seems that they are being very cautious with this ride though as all the other outside rides has reopened after the storm and this took another 30 minutes to get going again.

Any idea on how long the single rider line could be more or less?

Okay, so it's not opening until midday for the next couple of weeks. This is likely going to be in effect when we arrive for our first day at Universal on the 3rd July. We are there for 3rd, 4th and 5th July.

Does anyone have any tips?

USF is the park with early admission.

I was considering just doing Gringotts and USF on our first day.
Second day, Hogwarts Express to IOA, do FJ and then IOA?
Third day, Gringotts , Hogwarts Express to IOA and get in line for Hagrid?

I really don't know how to approach it? I don't want to spend literally hours queuing but equally, I really want to go on it!
