He’s only three, does he really need to go to preschool just yet ?
Would he do better waiting and exposing him more gradually to socialisation with toddler groups , music classes , tumbletots , group swimming etc for a while and then trying again ? Kids are ready at different times. |

I do think I'll give it a little while to improve and if not just wait a year.
I was hoping it would he good for him, he has just got to a stage where he seems more social when out at soft plays etc. He does do swimming and is doing really well at that. |

If he doesn't settle maybe try another one. This one may just not be for him. I would be expecting the nursery to try to engage him rather than letting him go off on his own to fall asleep.

It doesn't mean anything negative about him, or his development, if he needs more time before he's ready for nursery. Three of my four kids were wonderful in swimming classes and very social when out at soft plays, too, but they weren't ready for me to leave them until they were at least four (one was five). When they started school later, it was like a light turned on, honestly, and it was no problem at all. All three did well at school: friends, high marks, very well emotionally. At the time we decided to wait I was worried it might be a sign that they would struggle. Looking back, I'm so glad we were able to wait. It was healthier for these particular kids in the long run and no negative effects. Best of luck to you both.
