Alamo @ Miami airport

Could someone talk me through Alamo and the skip the counter stuff? We usually fly into Miami with BA and use Avis preferred, but have booked a fly drive with Virgin for next summer so car hire is with Alamo. Are the Alamo cars in the same but of the garage as Avis? We’ve got a full sized SUV booked, I’ve seen that you just go and pick one from the row of cars allocated to you? Is that right? What happens if there is nothing you like? Can you upgrade at the garage?

Complete the online check in before you travel and then once you get off the MIA mover, head to the Alamo level in the garage (don't bother with the kiosks nr the rental desks). Once you arrive on the Alamo floor, some Alamo staff will direct you to the row of full size SUV's. Haven't had any recent feedback about Miami but up in Orlando, the staff are now assigning you the vehicle for this category, although open to requests and if they have the specific make/model available, I'm sure they'll oblige.

Official upgrades should really be done at the rental desk... No harm in asking the garage staff what they can do though.

Is this due to COVID. It’s a big benefit of using Alamo being able to choice your own vehicle.

No, it started happening pre covid at MCO, just on the full size SUV / premium & luxury SUV afaik.

Hi,
Just be aware that when you arrive at the garage you will be greeted by an Alamo representative. I just got the feeling that they steered us towards the car they wanted us to take, which in my case was a Jaguar-F pace so was not too perturbed.

If I use them again I think I will ask if I can have a little more time to check out the line.
