Anyone else getting their car ready for winter

So we brought a new car about 3 months ago and daughter last month. Why do car manufacturers only put summer tyres on cars and not all weather ones. If they did this country wouldn’t ground to a standstill when we have a light dusting of snow. Our car is a 4x4 but I am changing the tyres to all weather so when it snows we can start and stop. We are also changing my daughter tyres this will give us peace of mind when it does snow. We will sell the tyres that come off as ours have only done 700 miles. And our daughter as well but they have done 6000 hopefully we will get £250 for all of them to help offset the cost.

The only car prep I do for winter is ensure I have de-icer in. I have never heard of summer tyres or changing tyres for winter.

I am in the same position and timing a change to all year tyres. Just wondering when best to do it as my tyres have only done 5000 and wondering how easy it is to sell part worn tyres (Continental contacts).

I never even check whats on mine!

God knows what a set of 4 costs on mine, certainly well over a £1K I suspect. Just checked, the rears which are larger are £320

Whats on there stays on there and invariably has loads of life when I sell the car.

The difference between summer tyres and winter or all weather is massive in snow.
Auto express did a test on a snowy lake one of the tests was 0 to 60 the winter and all weather did times the summer couldn’t do it as it couldn’t make 60 so no traction. Then they did 60 to 0 the winter and all weather did respectfully distance, the summer tyres couldn’t do 60 so they took its maximum speed it could do and it took longer to stop. In winter all weather and winter tyres are just better.

I was not questioning summer versus winter tyres. I have simply never heard of swapping tyres with the seasons, I just have tyres and they are replaced when they need to be due to wear and tear. We currently live in the countryside and often contend with poor, ungritted roads, had the car for nearly five years now and the tyres have been fine.

I have got a diary note to have my normal tyres changed to winter ones when I get back from holiday. The garage stores them and no charge for change each time.

When it snows and everything grinds to a standstill and you just keep on going do you have the Jeremy Clarkson smug face on.
