It is quite complex, and a lot more complex than they make it sound if you do a DVC chat on site. Of course, they just sell their current resort, and Disney sell at a fixed price point (no negotiation, although they sometimes have discounts if you buy over a certain number of points), so they edit out the complexity of resale as an option, or choosing which resort to buy in at.
Yorkshire T’s advice on researching is sound - we followed it and learnt so much! And the various threads on here are so helpful. We eventually decided to buy and have just cleared the ROFR hurdle on resale (if that is a foreign language, research will soon explain ). A couple of “screening” questions before you do too much research though a) will you be going at least every 2/3 years b) will you always be booking your holidays between 7 and 11 months out (ideally at 11 months) If the answer to either Q is no then, to be blunt, DVC wouldn't work well for you. Happy Researching!
