Tesco Pay at Pump rip off

I don't think it's a rip off I do think it's a sad reflection of the times we lIve in.

I read about this a few weeks ago and thought it was all pay at pump not just Tesco as it is the same system?

Always done this at Costco. Never shows as £99 funds held. Just an authorisation of £99.
I wonder if it effects those with not enough funds and no overdraft

From what I read, it is to close a loophole that allows people to fill there car up, then immediately empty the account leaving insufficient funds.

I understand this is due to the credit card companies' policy and that all the other supermarkets will be following suit. They also say that it will immediately be resolved on the account, and if that is the case, I won't find it a problem. For me the benefit of pay at pump is worth it, but the alternative is to pay in the shop and then it won't happen.

Yes - My understanding too. I have been amused the way it has been reported, as Tesco first then the other supermarkets named. It is poor journalism. This article might help:

It also explains that if you only had, eg £50 credit, then you would be allowed to fill up to £50. It also confirms that the payments will be dealt with in real time not with the two day lag that currently exists

I just hope the whole thing is quicker than it is now. Currently if I use my Tesco credit card to fill at pump it can take up to week to show on the card, it doesn't even take the balance from 'available balance' so it throws my budgeting off if I think I've filled up and paid but technically not had the money taken.

Is this just on a credit card. I did pay at the pump yesterday using my debit card and it only shows 99p on my statement.

No - both credit and debit, but it is only just rolling out. The idea is that you will immediately get charged for what you have used, as soon as you finish filling, which is aimed to help with budgeting (as mentioned by the poster above).
