HOLDING POINTS - International policy ?
I am 36 days from my first DVC reservation and need to make a decision. However am I right in thinking that there is an International policy that means if we cancel in the 30 day window, ours do not go into holding ?

I was told there was such a policy when I cancelled my May booking and at the same time enquired about my August booking.
The Lady I spoke to said I could cancel up to 24 hours before the date of room occupation. Being a canny old dog I wanted it on tape so I could challenge them if things changed. Ultimately I cancelled the August booking within the 30 day window no problems at all. If it was me and for the sake of an hour on the phone I would get that reassurance on tape even if you don't cancel that day. Trust nobody in business is my motto.

I asked them the other week and it was non committal- we will of course see what can be done etc. Makes me nervous.
Good advice from Tom re getting things recorded, ever since Sky called me offering me a contract renewal on the same terms at less of a price, then later claiming it didn’t include some channels (and conveniently losing the call recording) I like to get telephone agreements recorded myself.

When I spoke to them about 3 weeks ago to cancel one reservation, I was told that the 'International policy' could stop at any time and could only be guaranteed at the time I called. On further questioning (as I have another vulnerable booking!) he said it was linked to the border being closed? If that reopens and we can travel it will stop, regardless of whether we want uo travel or not! He said to me move quickly if the border reopens!
Obviously only one agents opinion but...! 🤷

I actually think this could be correct, they won’t keep handing out developer points forever and the border re-opening would mean that they’ve been pretty generous with it to be honest. They didn’t have to do anything and I’ve been impressed they’ve handed out points, even though I suppose they may have benefitted from a lot more breakage.

They told me that they will go into holding but then if we call, they'll take them out of holding so that we can bank them

We had an August booking which we cancelled just last week, 3 days before check-in.
I called to cancel and the agent was unaware of the policy but when I told him I was previously advised this, went to talk to a manager. He came back having received confirmation and promptly cancelled my bookings. He then banked the points which were from this use year (Dec 2020), albeit after our banking window closed (end of July), which was something else we were previously advised they would do. He also filled in a form on our behalf to request that the remainder of our points, which were banked into this use year, are extended (6 months). He said this would take a couple of weeks to be processed but said that I would see it under my membership as an extra June use year when processed! |

I was told they’d only be able to take them out of holding once. So I did this for our May trip and they took the points out of holding no problem when we got close to 30
Days before our August trip I called again to query and they said it sounded unlikely they could only do it once but couldn’t confirm until they actually tried to do it?! I didn’t want to take the risk so I cancelled before we got to 30 days! |
