Mobile Anyone here perform health checks

I am a pharmacy dispenser. Part of our training required us being able to do NHS health checks. The pharmacy that I work in is a fairly quite one, no health checks are asked for or performed.

Well, this week I have a health check booked in and I am so so nervous. It’s my first one, I am going to read back thru my training notes. I am on holiday for half term and the health check is within 30 minutes of me being back at work, so I cannot even recap with the team.

Any suggestions?

Do you have a template to work through? I've not done one for a while as other staff do them now. Try and read through the order you want to do it. Height weight BMI smoking status family history diabetes risk smoking status diet exercise lifestyle. Do the cholesterol then qrisk then talk about modifiable risk factors, lifestyle changes etc based on the qrisk. Anyone over 10% should consider a gp/nurse appt to discuss statins

I have a bit of experience. Has the equipment been been calibrated regularly so it'll give an accurate reading? Has anyone checked the equipment is working, you have all of the consumables you'll need and that the test strips are in date?
Do you have your regular pharmacist in so that can support you if you've got a question?
They are pretty simple to do so please don't panic, the form will go through the readings you need to take and (I think) it gives you the thresholds for when and where to refer the patient too if needed.
If you are worried on the day, please let the RP know.

The calibration is a really good point as if it's not used much it might not have been calibrated which may mean it's not accurate.

I would suggest asking someone in the pharmacy to check the equipment this week, or popping in yourself, so you don't worry about it over the weekend. It'd be better to make sure you have everything you need than having to disappoint the patient at very short notice on the day.

Perhaps do a practice check on a member of staff before the patient comes in ?

Do you use Pharmoutcomes? If you do open this and follow the questions on there. It's quite self explanatory. Also we give our patients a little booklet with details of their results on. This would give you an idea how to flow the consultation. If a patient was overweight etc then I would talk about exercise and weight loss programmes available locally. If they are a smoker I would advise about the stop smoking service. I would forward you some details but I'm also on leave and currently in florida. Hope it goes well

Thanks so much for all of your messages. I am going to watch some YouTube videos this evening. I am sure, like many things, that it will actually be fine and not as bad as I am imagining
