Am I an alcoholic?

I suffer terribly after I've drunk a bottle of oyster bay merlot, by having a bad nights sleep and feeling rough the entire next day.

The obvious answer would be not to drink or drink less, but even drinking a couple of glasses of wine still makes me feel rough so my logic is that I might as well drink the whole bottle.

I usually have one bottle of oyster bay a fortnight, but lately that is sometimes just once a week. I really enjoy drinking the wine but the after affect is the problem, and I keep saying I will completely stop drinking but it's like saying I won't eat anymore chocolate (although I have cut back on my chocolate addiction).

My dibb families opinion is important to me, as I promote freedom of speech so I won't be at all offended if you aren't kind to me. It's often said that good friends and family will often tell you things you don't want to hear about yourself (and you are my family and best friends all in one)?

When you’re drinking 2 bottles of spirts per day, then you should be worried.

My mother can start drinking from the moment she wakes up in the morning and can be drunk by lunch time. She stashes bottles of alcohol around the house and can be drunk pretty much everyday of the week. She can’t cope without it, I know your post is probably a joke, but that’s what an alcoholic is if you do start to seriously consider you might be one.

I don't think you have any worries at all, I'm sure some of your Dibb ladies will be more shocked at how little an amount of alcohol you do drink 😉

If you feel under pressure then you drink more so something like Covid ect might want you to drink. I do not think you a alcoholic but if you went up to drinking a bottle a day then I world say yes. A good few years ago I had a friend who drank once a week every Saturday night he go out drinking with friends he world go out not to get drunk but just to socialise. He did this for around 5 years. He meet a young lady who he fell in love with brought her everything she wanted he then found out she was using him he went down hill fast from drinking once a wwe to every day he could consum 2 bottles of whisky a day with in a year he was dead.

My post isn't a joke and what I've said is 100% accurate, and I accept that I'm not as much in need of alcohol as your mother is and she unfortunately does sound as she has quite a serious issue.

Stop drinking for a month, if you can’t then your an addict. If you won’t then your a plonker as you know it makes you ill.

Edit: I will qualify my statement, my sister in law who drank one to two bottles of wine a day insisted she was not an alcoholic. My wife and I were worried and asked her to not drink for two nights, just two nights. She made every excuse in the world for her not to do as we asked. She could not make it past 7pm of the first night and opened a bottle. Years later she is wrecked physically and mentally... she is an alcoholic.

I think it is the hiding it that’s the key isn’t it. It’s so sad when you can do nothing for them. My sister also started at breakfast time. I never really saw her drunk though, maybe she was never sober I don’t know ! We lost her by the time she was 50.

I don’t drink much ( mainly because of above) but I know I can’t drink wine any more and I did used to enjoy a glass of rose. Only a couple of glasses and I’m rough so I have stopped drinking it now. I can have a couple of gin and tonics over a weekend absolutely fine. Maybe MH you could just try drinking something else.
