August 7 days in New York- The 3 of us Day 1
This is a little late but sitting here on a cold snowy day remembering NY I thought I would try to do a trippy 😁
The 3 of us are myself Jenny, son Luke 19 and daughter Molly 16. After losing my hubby, their dad to cancer in Feb 17 we decided to book the trip we had talked about and Richard wanted us to still do. So ... Day 1 Flew out from Manchester with Thomas Cook. Only airport piccie I have lol On time, nice comfy flight, food was typical airplane food. Arrived at terminal 4 JFK and into immigration lines. Not been on a esta for a few years so main lines it was, through in around 20 mins, painless 😀 Got cases and through to the line for a yellow cab into Manhattan. Yes it's raining ! Got the craziest driver, never spoke, swerved in and out of traffic like a mad man and we breathed a huge sigh of relief when we got to our hotel We stayed at the Kimberley hotel on 50th and Lexington. They held $100 dollars on the credit card. Room was a good size, no breakfast but good WiFi and complimentary water every day which we needed with the heat. The Room, beautifully photobombed by my daughter. It was late afternoon by the time we got ourselves ready to go out. The rain had stopped and we headed for the Rockefeller centre first so we could swap our City pass voucher for tickets for Top of The Rock which we got for the day after. We wandered down to Times Square and just got a general feel for the layout of the streets. We saw there was a Johnny Rockets near our hotel so we ate there, 3 burger meals drinks and a shake $70 including tip. Lovely meal. Think we where back at the hotel for around 9.30 and crashed soon after 😴😴 Edited at 12:24 PM. |

Immigration was quick!
Yellow cab drivers can be so very scary! Massive room too!

Looking forward to reading along. In the 4 airport runs we have done in NY we have only had one smooth one. We had one guy who ignored us all the back to the airport as he was on his phone, and I don’t mean hands free, weaving in an out the whole way. It will always be my mode of transport choice from the airport as you can’t beat the view.

Massive line in immigration but loads of booths open, even had a friendly officer.
That was one of the small rooms, the bigger ones have balconies.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a cab again, don't think I would want to do the subway with cases.

We found the cab the easiest way from the airport too. However we were lucky as we had a nice, friendly driver who pointed out all the sights. It felt good to enter the city in the iconic yellow cab though 😃

We have booked the
Kimberley hotel for our seven day break this August. Would you recommend it as the cost for family of five is ridiculous, but was the best one I could find. How long does it take and roughly how much was cab? |

Beautiful hotel, took about an hour from JFK and price including tip $70.
The room was a great size and there are bigger rooms for larger families. About 15/20 mins walk to times square, not far from 5th Avenue for the shops. Subway station near by, would stay again.
