Food Summary - 7th to 14th December
We stayed offsite in Solterra Resort - Champions Gate.
Breakfasts were a combination of First Watch, IHOP and Golden Corral. While FW was nicely prepared there wasn't a huge difference between the 3 places. Each did made to order omelettes which is our go to breakfast. Breakfast with the Grinch at Universal was great for character interaction and photos but the food was so so. Lunch was mostly in the parks or not at all. No special highights although the Pot Stickers at China Epcot were tasty and not too heavy. Dinner was offsite with the exception of the Whispering Canyon in the Wilderness Lodge. The meal was wholesome and tasty, we finished the entire platter for 2 and could have had more but we didn't want to be overstuffed for the rest of the evening. Pretty good value for onsite at $34 each. Other places were the standard - Longhorn, Bahama Breeze, Golden Corral and Millers Alehouse. The Alehouse was a first visit for us, at Champions Gate, it was good value and the atmosphere was great on a Thursday night with NFL, NBA and NHL all live on different screens. We had a free meal in Seaworld, came with out annual passes bought in the Black Friday week sale. BBQ platter each which was way too much food for two people, one would have been big enough for the two of us. Special mention for Coppertail Brewery in Ybor City, Tampa. Fantastic meat and cheese plate, all artisan types, large portion and a real treat. The beer they produce over there is outstanding, my favourite was the beetroot sour, cracking choice with food. We had expected to go to some of the restaurants on Restaurant Row but with all the Xmas things were were doing we just didn't have the time/energy to take the required time for a full adult meal experience. Will do so when we go back in March. Ate in the Hyatt at the airport (McCoys), hidden gem of a place, reasonable and not overrun with kids or general airport rabble. Couple of nice beers to finish the holiday off (Bhudda) |
