Hayfever

I have always had a touch of hayfever in the past when we get to this time of year but it doesn’t ever bother me really bad. For some reason this year though it is awful. My eyes are sore, my nose feels incredibly irritated, even Piriton is only taking the edge off it. I know I shouldn’t moan with everything that’s going on in the world but it’s making me really miserable right now😢

I am waiting allergy testing when things get back to normal.

I was told piriton was not the best antihistamine for hayfever but to take cetirizine once a day but that you can take one twice a day if things are bad. Also to use a nasal spray such as beconase and to use it daily even if things appear to get worse the first few days.

It has made a difference to me this year even though i would have said that cetirizine didn’t work for me before, twice a day helped until the nasal spray kicked in.

They also suggest saline nasal douche but I didn’t get on with that.

Hope you find something that works, irs truly miserable isn’t it.

I dont get on with Piriton at all it makes me feel like a total zombie

I use the 85p loratadine or cetirizine from Home bargains or B & M I take them at night and they seem to last through the day.
I used to also use nasal beconase spray but never seem to get it right and it always go down my throat !
If particularly bad I also use optrex hay-fever eye drops

Try Benedryl. It's the only thing that works for me these days.

I use shop own ones. It is really bothering me this year so i' getting worried sometimes haha but my daughter is on hospital medication for it and its playing up for her. Today she is sat in the sun with a box of tissues next to her and vaseline under her eyes and nose haha

It's really bad this year, I take a prescription antihistamine as I have asthma, but my son usually takes Piriton with no bother but this year it doesn't seem to help him at all.
Not sure why this year is so bad!

Mine returned with a vengeance about a week ago. I’ve tried so many things over the years both traditional (tablets, sprays and injections) and homeopathic and loretadine tablets work the best for me. I buy mine from one of the discount stores as they’re exactly the same ingredient as the more expensive branded ones. I’ve also used Prevalin spray for the last couple of years for when it gets really bad.

Hay fever is really pants so feel free to moan!

I completely agree - cetirizine up to twice a day when needed, and 2 sprays of Beconase in each nostril, twice a day, from before the season starts until the end of summer. Beconase needs to be taken regularly, right through the season, as it takes a few days to work efficiently.
I also have air purifiers in the bedrooms, to clear the pollen. This makes night time much more comfortable, but doesn't work if you keep the windows open at night in the warm weather. Don't dry your bedding outside, use a tumble drier, to keep it away from the pollen.

Mine has been so bad this year with the itchy eyes and the sneezing.

The weirdest thing I’ve had is my right nostril occasionally goes through phases of feeling like I need to sneeze, it does it for hours at a time, it’s like I’ve got pepper in my nose and sneezing doesn’t relieve it, so weird.

Piriton is cetirizine. That’s what it says on the packet.


I use fexofenadine on prescription as the ones you can get in the shop don’t work for me
