Brand new trellis - wrong colour - can I paint it ?

Should add it's powder coated.
I need black and this is more a greenish colour.

Would hammerite do it without a load of sanding down or car paint spray?

It's very fine.metal in places. It's hard to get hold of and an expensive present and non refundable.

Powder coat is enamel. So I would use Hammerite smooth black spray. Build up light coats. Don't try to do it in one go or it will run. No undercoat or rubbing down will be required. Just make sure it is clean and dust free.

Excellent - thank you ! Will give it a go.

Do I need to patch test it, or just go for it ?

Personally I would just go for it. But I am used to spraying.

Technique is everything so that is why I say to build it up slowly and don't spray too close or too slowly. 6 to 10 inches away and move quite quickly. Don't try and cover it in one coat. 2 or 3 thin coats. Each coat will then dry by the time you have covered all the panels. So you can then start again on the first.

I painted a trellis black recently using cupronol shed and fence paint. Worked a treat and its water repellent so the trellis should last a while. I paint my wooden garden bench with this every year since they brought out colours, I've had the bench for 16 years and it still looks new.
