Anyone been to Marmaris?

Anyone been?
Got a chance to go on a (very) last minute holiday later this week/next weekend - only place viable is Turkey. Only flights that fit in are to Dalaman area and hotels seem to be in Marmaris.

We were in Rhodes a month ago and were very satisfied with how things are run COVID-wise whilst away (TUI's own hotels) so no worries about going away really.

It's just a query about Marmaris, not familiar with the area, anyone recommend any hotels there? Things to do/see in the area or day trip by car?

Thanks

We went a few years ago but would not recommend the hotel we stayed at.

We went in October and the weather was good for us. It was warm in the day and a little chilly at night. We needed a cardigan.

I liked Marmaris. The coastline is beautiful and there was lots of water sports available. The town itself was a bit tacky in parts and the footpaths can be uneven. However we enjoyed walks around the harbour, the bazaar and markets.

We have also stayed at Ichmeler and again the coastline is stunning.

We went a few years ago and wouldn’t recommend our hotel either. There was a nice walk around the front and the town was a decent size for a walk around.

I do remember that the coach transfer from the airport was quite a long one, possibly about 2 hours.

I’ve been to icmeler about 15 times before it was as commercialised (started going in the 80s). Used to get the dolmus into Marmaris but the last time I was there I got off the bus, walked about 20 metres, crossed the road and got back on the bus.

It might have changed as that was around 12 years ago but it was hassle central. You couldn’t walk past a shop or restaurant without getting pestered.

The weather is usually lovely though .

Thanks for these replies.

Have to say, Turkey would not be our first choice of destinations but that's all there is right now, and hubby has annual leave he is going to lose if he doesn't take it next week.
His thoughts are we may as well laze around or go out exploring in a car in the warmth in Turkey as sit around at home.
Found a hotel on seafront, a TUI 4 star plus one, with good reviews and a nice pool to relax at or on the beach. The views from the hotel look gorgeous and we plan to hire a car and go off in search of lovely land and seacapes.
