Damage protection insurance(DPI) or security deposit
How much have you been asked to pay for DPI and do you prefer this to paying a security deposit when renting a villa?

In my opinion, a damage waiver or insurance is just an extra rental fee, to make the main rental amount look more competitive, so is little more than a con. You are paying it whether there is damage or not. If you are renting from an honest owner (most are) and don't cause damage (hopefully you won't) then you get all your damage deposit back - which is obviously better/cheaper.

It almost specified by the owner who has their property managed by IPG. We have never paid insurance before and thought it was a bit peculiar to pay to protect someone elses risk. We leave everything as we find it so never been concerned about security deposit. Really I just wondered how common this option was and what people thought of it.
