I just had to google gachapon. I didn’t see them in Tokyo but think they were in the numerous and very fascinating vending machines in motorway service stations we stopped at during our road tour.

Anyone been into a Pachinko ‘arcade’ in Japan ? It’s a very noisy game like a vertical pinball machine with metal balls. If you walk into an arcade the noise of the machines and metal balls just hits you, deafening. Definitely an experience !

Wow - not being funny but they were all over the place in Tokyo, but then I kept an eye open for them as wanted to get Disney themed ones for my niece, and also take pics of the weird ones lol

Oh 95% of that are tat - but they range in price from something like 100 yen each to 400 yen each, and the more expensive ones are pretty great quality for a collectible.

The ones in the Disney parks themselves can be pretty great gifts.

Not been in one but one of the Japanese YouTube people I follow, did a "day in the life" of a worker at one and it was fascinating, at least to me!

I loved seeing the weird and wonderful things you could get (gas masks, the masks of Freddy Kruger to name but 2!) but some of them were really good quality merch!

Want to get more of the ones in the Disney parks for sure this next trip, it it goes ahead, but probably loads of the Disney themed ones in general.

I had no idea they have them in TDR as well. We'll have to keep an eye out.
