Mine is a three double bedroom ex-council semi built in 1939.
I got it very cheap 20 years ago because the previous owner hanged himself in the attic and the agents couldn't sell it.
(It's not haunted)

First 3 houses were brand new or almost new newbuilds on developments. However last year we bought a 1970's house that hasn't had much done since then and are trying to renovate it with very little experience It will be great when it is finished and we bought for location but it is an expensive and frustrating process - give me a new build!

Love aplace with a bit of history attached! Seems to be near where my nan lived many many moons ago!

Our house was built about 1985, so no real history!

Mine is a three storey house built in 1973. Been here nearly 19 years. It served a purpose at the time with four double bedrooms but its never really felt like home and now we rarely use the top floor as two of three kids left home a long time ago.

We have a 4 bed ex-council house, the street was built to house the local police back in the 50s. Lovely big gardens, and plenty space for us all. Been here 7 years and will never move unless we hit the big one on the Lotto!

Part of our house was built in the 1780’s as far as we know. There were obviously no records. Half of the house was a barn which was joined at some point, perhaps 1970’s but again a best guess.

We have a 4 year old, 4 bedroom house. It would seem to have all the sought after things, utility, downstairs cloakroom, big kitchen breakfast room, dining room, big lounge, en suite, garage etc etc.. but severely lacks one thing, namely character. it could be on any estate in the country.

I would dearly love to own a Victorian house with its decorative features, high ceilings, picture rails, mosaic hallway etc etc etc, suitably modernised of course with the very large kitchen extension out the back with bifolds, and an ensuite.

The problem is that I am 60 and with increasing age will come a gradual lack of ability to perform maintenance tasks and periodic renovations, such as to wooden windows, wooden soffit boards, guttering, leaking roofs, damp, dry rot, wet rot , laughing plaster, lead plumbing and all the miriad of other things. That is why I have a pretty much all plastic house that will hopefully require little or no renovation throughout my lifetime. Even the (fake) Chimney is made of fibre glass for aesthetic purposes only.

Our decision in purchase was to opt for the reality as opposed to the dream.

Build in 1914 as council housing, one or two in the street still are. Not the prettiest of buildings but great room sizes and in the most perfect setting. My forever home even though the kids have flown the nest.
