Any tips please for covering a cushion?

I've just ordered some cut to order sponge and waterproof fabric to make some cushions for our boat stern seats.

Any tips please?

I have checked that the material is good for being machine sewn, would you recommend buying a specific needle or cotton?

Any other tips really gratefully received, I've not done a project like this for many years.

Just spoken to my sister she says use polyester thread it’s resistant to mildew the smallest sharpest needles that will go through the fabric or a microtec needle and spray the seems with a water repellent spray like forever wet or one of the Scotch Guard water proof sprays
She recovered her patio cushions which ate out all year at their home in the Canaries

If it’s a ‘sticky’ fabric, use a little masking tape on the underside of your foot and on the plate (just not on the feed dogs, unless you have a Teflon or walking foot
Some waterproof canvas you can iron from the right side with gentle heat, some from the wrong side with a pressing cloth, and which ever needle you choose make sure it’s nice and sharp!
