Cyprus. (Lived there for 2 wonderful years) . Any village tavern serving a full Meze. Old town Pissouri springs to mind.. or Evdimou. It has to be with rough, cheap Coccinelli wine... after a Brandy Sour to start with.

The trick is to get away from the tourist traps, where visitors are comprehensively fleeced.

Tokyo - I am a person who is not adventurous with food, does not try new things usually - boring as heck.

Sort of bullied by my partner to try ramen and it was amazing, the depth of flavours in the broth - exquisite!

Love the Melandia Beach café at Evdimou beach and The Bunch of Grapes in Pissouri Village, the village tavern in Agros is good too.

Possibly in Montenegro. It was a tiny tavern up the road from our villa. It was the only place you could walk to. The villa manager booked it for us, we had no idea really what it served or how much it cost! All we knew was that it’s speciality was lamb. We told the manager that my sister and I don’t eat lamb so he said we’d get chicken. When we got there it was very rustic over looking the countryside. One other table with a big Scandinavian family. Kittens, dogs wondering around! The lamb was cooked on a huge pit in the outer room before the restaurant. Husband and wife running restaurant, husband spoke only very little English! We ended up getting huge plates of cheese, salad, bread and meats to start. Then a salad. Then the meat, all perfectly cooked and served with delicious potatoes and other veggies. It was all amazing and such an unusual experience! Was pretty good value too as we took doggy bags home for next day!

Thinking about it, several of our nicest meals have been in America.
The one thst really sticks in my mind was our meal at the Voodoo Steakhouse at the top of the Rio hotel in Las Vegas. We only went for drinks on the roof terrace but the food smelt so good we decided to eat there. It was the most amazing steak we've ever eaten. Nowhere else has come close.

I did have an amazing seafood pasta dish in a lovely family run restaurant in Los Abrigos, Tenerife in 2012.
