Why not keep all the receipts and add them up at the end of each day - that will tell you how much you've spent.

I have to submit expense reports for work travel and cash is frowned upon. Using cards is much easier to track what you spent and how you spent it. Especially if you have an app that shows you your transactions (Monzo is great for this btw).

Agreed. I actually find cash FAR harder to keep track of.

I think it's more that you have a hard limit when using cash, where a card is soft. You can set yourself a budget, but nothing other than willpower to stop you spending more if the funds/limits are available.

Of course, nothing to stop cash people withdrawing more cash unless they brought no other funding methods (unlikely - since cards are required 95% of the time for security deposits) so even that logic goes out the window for me.
