We are going the same day this year for a 10.50 MAN flight and we live just under an hour away. We are being picked up at 6am so this would hopefully allow for any issues to be resolved.

Going the night before just seems like we are travelling for days.

We are about an hour from Manchester and would always set off early and drive on the day if going from Manchester. I don't think I would consider staying overnight. This time though we are going from Gatwick for the first time. I am estimating 4.5 hours to get there and it is a 1pm flight. My nerves wouldn't take us going on the day.

We live just under an hour from Gatwick and always drive on the day but allow 2-3 just incase we hit something. If I was driving from Wales there is no way I would leave it until the day. Im considering staying night before at Heathrow this tear and its only abhors drive. Its the worry of what might happen on the roads.

until this year we have always travelled down through the night for early flights, it's usually very quiet BUT it makes the whole day so so long and is very tiring, this year we stayed in manchester the night before and it was the most relaxing start to a holiday i have had.

Last time we travelled (around 1hr door to door) and it was reddiculously stressful. Both my wife and I were a bag of nerves.

This time around we’ll be staying at the airport.

We've got a 1pm flight to New York in September and live about 55 miles from Heathrow. We are staying in a hotel the night before rather than travelling down that day - just in case, plus DH likes to think the holiday starts a day earlier! 😄
Having said that, we are travelling to Birmingham on the day of our flight to Majorca in July, but it's a 5:30pm flight and we are going up by train!

Even this year our flight is earlier at 9.20am, we are still traveling on the day. As we will be leaving by 6am we should be up at Heathrow before any possible accidents etc. My father in law will be driving us so if there are any car issues then he can drive one of our cars.
Living an hour away from the airport is different to living 7 or 8 hours away though. I was born and spent my childhood and early adult life in Bridgend in South Wales and no way would I travel from there to Gatwick on the day of the flight.

This is the first time ever that we are travelling to airport same day as flight. However, we are travelling by train (no guarantee, I know) from Northampton to LGW for our 4.00 p.m. Norwegian flight. We shall plan to be there way more than the necessary 3 hours, but for us it will be a luxury not having to pay an overnight hotel.

It's a great idea until it's not! Hopefully it'll always seem a great idea!

My Saturday flight is 13:30. We will be traveling in the morning from Cardiffshire
We normally stay the night before but our flights have been 10ish previously.
If it was a week day I would stay over but am chancing there won't be much untoward. I am an avid google map and Waze tracker.
If the road is clear I will be getting there long before check in is open.
