We live in northern ireland and fly from dublin. We can drive there in low traffic in two hours and our flight leaves at 2pm ..however just too much stress for me. Getting three kids organized ..prefer to be close by night before !

We live 10 miles from Manchester airport so we always go from home, if there is an accident on M60/M56 we know we can also get a train or tram to the airport.
If I lived further away I would stay in an airport hotel.

We stayed in Hotel at Gatwick for first time last year, so much less stressful and will definitely be doing this in future. Year before we were flying from LHR, got on M4 at Newport to signs saying M4 shut junction 15 -16 took us two and a half hours to go around. Luckily we had set off very early as planned to have breakfast before getting to airport but it was so stressful!
We are going Oct and already booked hotel |

Travel the day or night before you never know what might happen if you travel on the day of the flight

There may well be closures on the motorways if you travel late in the night.
Here are some good sites to check any planned closures traffic-wales/map.aspx roads.highways.gov.uk/roadwor...erity=Se vere roadworks Edited at 09:59 PM. |

We always stay at a hotel the night before too...starts the holiday a day earlier...got the Premier Inn for £38 for January..so don't break the bank either...
There was a nasty accident on the M25 yesterday just before the M23 junction...I was going the opposite way... I hope nobody missed their flights.

If cost if worrying you we stayed at Premier inn off site last year. Cost £38 for the night free parking for the night and a light breakfast included. We then drove the 4-5 miles to airport parking in the morning.
We set off about 7pm in the evening had a straight run down there, good nights sleep and so much less stress Not a lot of money for peace of mind |

We live 45 mins from the airport and prefer to stay in an airport hotel. I stress at the thought of road works.

Wow so many people from South Wales 🙂 Another one from Cardiff here... we have a 1.30 flight from Gatwick to Oakland (San Francisco) in October and we debated going on the day... but far too risky with the m4 and m25, especially on a Monday morning!

We are also travelling down from Orlando to Miami on the day of our flight home. It's not till 9pm, but I am not wasting a day by travelling down the day before.
