Wow this sounds awful OP.
Floridasgirl yes compensation culture has got a bit ridiculous but being trapped in a dark, hot box with no-one telling you what's going on for over an hour is worth compensation! |

Without being there I don't think anyone can comment how bad it was. I know for sure If I was stuck in that small space with no AC I would get pretty panicky very fast- more so if there was zero communication.
It seems it was not pointed out where the emergency handle was to open the door- I've always sound it odd that there is no sign to tell you about this. I would have been kicking off in Guest relations big time and demanding to speak to a manager in charge and asking why it went the way it did. Its unacceptable as there is a walkway along the entire length of the track and an evacuation should be really easy to do

I agree. Of course it is worrying if there is NO emergency exit on the train but if the ride is high up as another poster has said, maybe it was deemed safer to keep people on the ride than evacuate and risk someone falling. If the emergency had been fire related, this would possibly have been dealt with differently.
It must have been really unpleasant and free drinks and a day FOLP would be considered a fair 'compensation/gesture' in this case, but certainly not a major compensation claim. No one was really hurt by this incident, it was just one of those unfortunate things that happen. |

They mentioned the emergency release every time we rode it and that was a significant number of times.
I would of thought at least one of the carriages would have been told as different cast members show you to the carriage. Also it's a forum floridagirl is allowed an opinion as I have had pointed out to me before. I was told don't post if you aren't prepared for the responses. |

I have ridden it a few times and no one has ever said anything about an emergency release, I wonder if only some trains have it? Because if they all have it then that would imply that their staff were negligent in not using it and makes the complaint even best the staff were ignorant of or at worst didn't work

I need to add.
Yes there is an emergency release button under one of the seats in the small cabin you sit in. This is just to open the small cabin door ( the one you see Harry Ron and hermione talking in) into the main corridor but the main train doors do not open. Them doors are electronically closed... these had to be forcibly removed. Please also remember the windows are blacked out! |

Yes the release only gets you out of the main cabin.
Also in response we rode in various carriages and they mentioned it in them all. Last year I have to say they never mentioned it once but we assumed it could have had something to do with the breakdown while we were there this year. I assume you aren't allowed to open the outer doors yourself as you can fall from the track. Unfortunately it's a theme park and rides break down all the time. When we were there last week there was a large electrical storm which took out about 6 rides on the evening in Universal, they had to get people of Hulk, Rip Ride and other rides as it had taken out the power. |

If it was an actual emergency like a fire then the doors would be ripped off and windows smashed. They were discouraged from doing so, which suggests it wasn't an emergency, but a malfunction. Hence why they don't want to damage the train over people being stuck for an hour. All the people asking what if, IF it was an emergency then it would be handled differently. I agree with people getting something as an apology for the inconvenience and wasted time, but not lifetime passes and compensation because of "if" something else happened.
