We are flying next May also! We haven't pre-booked seats yet but we do keep checking our flight and plan on booking them if it looks like it's getting a bit too full, so that could be an option for you?

So far it doesn't look too bad but as our first holiday as a couple we want to be seated together.

The last time we flew with virgin (before you could pay to book seats so a while ago) they did split all of us up . When I reached check in I did ask if there was anyway my ten year old could sit with one of us (he was on his own ) and they moved us all thankfully . However not sure how that works now you have the opportunity to pay to select seats , it is a lot of money and I would like to think they wouldn't separate both adults from the children .

I am always nervous with Virgin and pay to book my seats, if you definitely want to sit together.

When my children were 1 and 3, they did split us up. It was only me crying that they relented and sat us all together - I was flying on my own btw and my 3 year old was seated behind me!

So, yes it does happen.

We normally book extra legroom but for next year we've booked the back row in the bubble. The smaller cabin appeals to us more. My youngest will be 12 when we fly, he would be mortified if he wasn't sitting with us. He's funny about sitting next to a stranger in the cinema or doctors surgery! It's a gamble not to pay but maybe extra legroom is your answer! We've always thought the extra legroom was worth the money - DH & eldest DS are 6ft 3.

OMG! That's horrendous! I would have cried too!
3 yr olds need far too much help to be left seated on their own!

Yes, agreed. It was only our second long haul flight with them. At first, they did refuse to move us so that we could sit together - I was totally unprepared that they would even consider that this was acceptable.

I would definitely book them, I have seen families split up and how distressing it is for them, I also have seen air crew asking people to move seats to enable parents of small children sit together not very good when the person refused to move as he had paid to book the seat ! But I can't really blame him.

My travel agent told me not to worry as people don't usually reserve seats. But reading threads on this forum I think I'm going to ignore her advice and and do so anyway.

Thank you everyone. I think I'm going to monitor and book in the week. I can't believe they'd split a 3yr old fromtheir family! How much extra are extra leg room seats?

These are the seats - the purple...can't understand how they're extra leg room though?!
