11 night Orlando stay & Caribbean cruise?

Hello all,

We've recently returned from our 14 night Orlando honeymoon but feel there were a few experiences we wish we had more time for (such as a second or third go on the Forbidden Journey!) so we are thinking of doing a 3 night stay in Orlando followed by an 8 night carribean cruise with Royal Carribean via Virgin Cruises for May 2014.

Has anyone done something similar, and would you recommend?

The only teeny thing putting me off is that the cruise only stops at 3 ports, but I suppose thats because of all the travel time betweeen ports.

And the most important question... how much spending money?

Thanks! D x

We haven't cruised yet and i'm sure someone else will come along with more info but have you priced it up separately rather than through Virgin? I'd be tempted to book the cruise through a US TA, they tend to be far better if any problems arise as someone else discovered recently when DCL changed cruise dates and VH knew nothing about it and were unhelpful, those of us affected who'd booked trough US TA have all.been sorted out with alternatives.

Which itinerary were you thinking of?
I've only sailed on DCL, and, like Karen, always use a US TA.
If the ship you hope to sail on has plenty of activities for those sea days, then it's no issue at all. If it doesn't but you just like lazing in the sun, then it's all good!

3 ports in 8 days for the Caribbean doesn't sound right what is the itinerary? I would book this separately as well. If you go online with RC there is a 5% discount.

I loved my Caribbean cruise

Hi we've done the Orlando stay and cruise (2010) and booked each element of it ourselves. We did use a US TA but they are now restricted in offering some cruises to non-US by some of the cruise lines including RCL. Would love to know which US TA doesn't have that restriction. We used Carnival without any problem. We stayed at Old Key West for a week and hired a car which we then dehired at Fort Lauderdale airport and took the free shuttle to the port (check with car hire companies as not all have this service). As we were flying in and out of Orlando, we hired a car again at Fort Lauderdale airport for the minimum requirement of 3 days and drove back to Orlando for another couple of days before flying home. We found the cheapest part of the holiday is the cruise as all your food/entertainment is included. There are lots of cruises from Fort Lauderdale/Miami to choose from. You could always cruise from Port Canaveral as there is a shuttle from MCO to the port which would save on hiring a car for atleast 3 days (unless of course that is what you plan to do) at the end of the cruise if you are flying back straight away.
We're planning on doing in again in 2015 as hoping to renew our vows on Half Moon Cay during a Carnival cruise after visiting Disney first of course.
