Transferring 8mm & mini DV tapes.

Just wondering if anyone can give some advice on transferring recordings from 8mm and Mini DV tapes.
Whilst we still have the old video recorders neither of them are reliable enough to play the tapes (I don't know why we've kept hold of them) our handycam failed us on our last trip to WDW and damaged the recordings
We have Sony PJ810E now but a recent life changing experience has prompted me to to try and salvage a lifetime of memories stored on those old tapes that I can't bear to loose.
Any advice appreciated

Just take them into a photo shop in the high st,they will put them on DVD,s,it's not cheap though,£10 a DVD,they only record what's on the recordings

Thank you for that with the number we have at £10 it will run into hundreds of pounds, but that's not a problem, as I can't put a price on the memories on those tapes.

I know it will depend on quantity you take to the shop, but do you know the timescale to transfer them, is it days or weeks?

Thank you were the recordings good quality?
We have many tapes that will be half or even less filled (don't know which ones). I presume it's £10 per tape regardless of how much is recorded on the tape?

Hoping to rediscover many similar memories to those you describe

Thanks again

You have just reminded me I have cables and plugs and a convertor thingy as well sitting about somewhere, I did use it to convert a few VHS tapes to DVD, I also remember the frustration of having to buy a VHS player to play the tapes on to do the conversion via my PC ! man they were pricey for a second hand one !
