Update 1 - Anaheim Hotel
So with our trip coming round at a crazy fast rate I thought it was time to start updating you all on what we have booked so far… starting with our first stop of the trip, Anaheim!
Our sole intention of adding Anaheim to the itinerary was to visit Disneyland (I say ‘our’ but I of course was the one pushing for it!) so when it came to booking our hotel for this leg we weren’t too fussy about what we wanted. The main check boxes to be ticked were that it was within walking distance to the parks and that it was reasonably priced. With those criteria in mind we set about hunting out somewhere suitable. We will be landing into LAX on the Wednesday afternoon with the intention to head straight to Anaheim from there. We have scheduled a four night stay to allow us three whole days in the parks. After looking at endless hotels, Paul came across Hotel Ménage, situated on South Harbor Boulevard. After some extensive googling of images, checking of reviews and watching YouTube videos we came to the agreement that this would be perfect and pretty much exactly what we was looking for. Firstly the location looked ideal, within a mile of the parks with walkable access: (also I'm very happy to see a McDonalds so close by... I wonder how many strawberry milkshakes we can rack up in the space of 4 days?!) The price was also comfortably within budget (actually it was considerably under what we had originally budgeted so that has allowed us to shift some around figures and up our budget for our Vegas hotels… result!). For 4 nights the total price at booking was £491 with an additional 1% resort fee due at the time of stay (if only all resort fees for this trip were that cheap!). We also went through Quidco when booking so we have clocked up over £73 back there and as we booked through eBookers we also added over £14 to our Bonus+ account. All in all a great deal! We have booked a deluxe king room with pool view that will allow views of the DLR fireworks (not that I expect to be watching them from the room but nice to have the option I guess!). Parking comes in at $14 a day but as we will be walking to the parks this will work out cheaper than parking there so that’s another win. Very excited to have our first stop sorted, now just park tickets to sort and that’s Anaheim ticked off the list! Edited at 06:38 PM. |

Update 2 - Vegas Hotels
The hotel updates are coming thick and fast… today is Vegas! Now as you can probably guess from the title we are looking at plural hotels here, yes we couldn’t decide on just one so ended up booking two so we can split our time there!
On our previous trip we stayed in New York New York and absolutely loved it but we were keen to try somewhere new this time around and we also fancied being a bit more central on the strip (Paul stayed at The Mirage on his last visit and really liked that location) so initially we were looking at Planet Hollywood. After reading various bad reviews the anxiety got the better of me and we decided to scrap that idea. We were now torn between going for one of the newer, modern hotels or a more traditional, themed hotel (proper Vegas style!) so after going back and forth more times than your Auntie doing the hokey-cokey at a family party we settled on one of each to give ourselves the best of both world! We will be arriving in Vegas on Sunday 14th May and will be spending our first 5 nights at the Vdara, an all-suite, non-smoking, non-gaming hotel based in the CityCenter. We visited this area back in 2010, not long after it had opened, and were blown away with how sleek and modern it all looks. It is also perfectly located, right across from the Aria Resort and Casino. We have booked a Studio Fountain View Suite through eBookers at a cost of just under £620 for the 5 nights (taking advantage of a 15% voucher code and £4.60 in our Bonus+ account). On top of this we will also have to stump up another £160 in resort fees plus parking fees (annoying but I have made my peace with this and it is now budgeted into our spends). At the time of booking, eBookers was offering $30 food and beverage credit per day so that goes some way in making up for it I guess! The suites look beautiful and I am so excited to have a fountain view! It will also be great to have a kitchen area and fridge so we can stock up water and snacks for the room. With ‘modern and new’ ticked off we then went on a hunt for some classic Vegas theming and ended up settling on Treasure Island. We will be staying here for the Friday and Saturday night. Here we have booked a petite suite with fountain views (again through eBookers) at a cost of just over £316 for the 2 nights (again taking advantage of the 15% voucher code and £18.59 in our Bonus+ account). We will be looking at around £60 in resort fees but handily parking is free. So that pretty much covers Vegas, well the hotels anyway! More updates to come in regards to plans whilst out there! 11 weeks to go! |

All caught up!
I reckon you'll have at least 8 strawberry milkshakes! Haha! All your hotels look ace, but what's with the resort fees?! Is that the norm on the west coast? Ouch! It's coming round so fast lovely! Xxxx |
