If BA are forced to contract their operation due to any virus related issues LGW will be sacrificed in favour of LHR.

Do you know what the procedure is? Do they cancel or just change your flight?

They would tend to consolidate rather than cancel. Times would change and destinations may become indirect.

We have booked LHR more for the fact that we can now get connecting flights from Inverness saves the cross London airport change.

I've booked Gatwick because I can't drive and can get a direct train to Gatwick. If I go from Heathrow I have to get a train to London then go to Heathrow from there or I can get a National Express coach direct to Heathrow.

I rather like the coach option.
When going to Heathrow I’m a big fan of the little known Feltham option via Clapham Junction or Waterloo . I’d rather do that than Deal with the Tube with it’s endless stops and steps and escalators to navigate if using public transport. |

If Covid is still affecting BA operations, they will sacrifice Gatwick operations at the drop of a hat and move to Heathrow. The Heathrow landing slots are so valuable and the "use it or lose it" rule on the slots will return at some point. The exact same can be said for Virgin too who have abandoned Gatwick for the foreseeable future.
It has often been joked that BA should be called London Airways - they certainly think there are only 2.5 runways in the UK when it comes to long-haul flying. The two golden ones at Heathrow and that secondary one at Gatwick. |
