Everglades
We have been to Florida 3 times now and have decided that because we have booked a villa and car that we would like to go somewhere other than the parks. Has anyone been to the everglades and if so was it worth the trip and approx. how long would it take us to get there from disney?

Hi,
We went to the Everglades some back, but that was before the kids came along. From memory it's about 3 hours or so drive due to the speed limits - LOL It really depends on what you want from your holiday - if it's to see another side of Florida and away from "The Mouse", then it could be the place for you. (Just popping this over to "Beyond the parks" board).

The Everglades are a great place to visit, but it's a 4 hour journey from Orlando, so worth on overnighter . . . there are loads of cheap motels around to stay in.
We went down to Marco Island last year so we could do more stuff around the Everglades. We had such a cool time . . . so much so we're back to Marco for 10 nights this October after 6 in Orlando The Everglades are a very special place, particularly if you're interested in the wildlife. But a trip on an airboat ride around some of the Everglades would be well worth the drive down. There are quite a few to choose from and there are a few museums, Native American Indian encampments to look at too. Everglades City is on the beach if you wanted to combine the two. If you need any more info shout PS - meant to say the drive down is a piece of cake, we took a very leisurely 4.5 hrs from Orlando to Marco Island last year - but we stopped a few times nosing around. Our DD (then 9) loved the Everglades too. Mrs Dazzle |
