Thumbs up Top Tip - Save taking the laptop

Very useful gadget if you plan on taking a lot of photos.

Instead of lugging a large, fragile laptop with you, buy a downloader to save your photos on. Basically it's a card reader and a hard drive rolled into one. Simply place the card in the slot, press the copy button and all stored pics are transfered to the drive. Reformat the card and away you go.

They are about the size of a standard iPod and you can get then with a full colour screen so you can review then. Basic models have just a status display.

I use a Jobo Giga One with a 40gb drive. This stores about 4000 pics.

Good tip.

Whilst 90% of the time I take my lappy, so I can check the shots are all good, I have an iPod Photo 60gb and a little firewire adapter that I use to store pictures in some circumstances.

Very very useful especially if your taking the odd special photos in RAW which can change that 2gb card capacity dramatically..

In fact dramactically is understating it...

I have a similar 40gb device I bought from ebuyer for about £50 before our recent trip. Each day I downloaded the contents from our (3) digital cameras and the sD card in the video camera (these are still images - the video is on mini dv tape). I didn't need to recharge the unit during the two weeks and I had plenty of storage left. It meant I could take as many piccies as I wanted and not worry about buying additional xD cards for the camera.

I would recommend it as a solution to those who can't (or don't want to) take a laptop away with them. It also meant that I could (if I had needed to) send the data files to my home computer by email.

if you have an ipod I think there is an adaptor you can connect to it that allows you to do this.

Im always a bit paranoid about losing my pics, so I take the laptop and the iPod, so I have them on both!

We went to Walmart yesterday and got two cd's made from the sd cards we have. It cost us $6.04.
Its $2.82 plus tax and you get little thunbnail pics with that printed on a card.

We always bring one laptop, but had problems with DS's, so bought SD cards and had CD's made.

Thank god for Wal-mart and their very reasonabe prices
