Photoshop & Elements

Can someone enlighten me to the difference between Photoshop & Elements? Im currently using Photoshop 7 which seems to be pretty good for most of my requirements but Im intrigued as to what Elements does? I was always under the impression it was a "photoshop lite" type program? Do I need it if I have PS7?

Also, how can I get hold of extra filters and plug ins for Photoshop?

Thanks.

Stick to PS7 =)

You can get plug-ins all over the net. Whack "photoshop plugins" into Google and enjoy =)
