Medieval Times revamp
The theme may be timeless -- courage and chivalry prevail as the valiant knight vanquishes the foe and good triumphs over evil.
But Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Kissimmee, which has jousted with the ups and downs of the local tourism market for almost 20 years, has tweaked its show this spring to entice more visitors and entertain repeat customers with a fresh program. The new show has the same lance-splintering action and pageantry of previous shows, but adds some new elements including a princess and a "confrontation between a turncoat warrior and a surprise defender of the crown." The show also marks the debut of a coal-black Friesian stallion, providing a dramatic contrast to the white Andalusian stallions ridden by most of the characters performing nightly in the 1,129-seat arena, on west U.S. Highway 192. Friesians trace their bloodline to northern Europe in about A.D. 500, and were valued for their agility in battle while carrying extra weight, such as knights in armor. Another highlight of the new show is an original music score recorded by the renowned Prague Symphony Orchestra. Medieval Times, which opened to considerable skepticism in 1984, at first under the name El Castillo del Cid, surprised the skeptics and within three years had welcomed more than 1 million visitors. Owned by an international group of investors, the operation has since grown from four locations to nine throughout the United States and Canada. The dinner attraction, featuring a banquet "medieval-style, without silverware" charges $45.95 for adults and $29.95 for children 11 and younger. From Orlando Sentinel Article HERE
