Photo / video back up solution
Hi Everyone,
I was just after some advice about the best way to back up photo's and videos from our camera. We are not really wanting to take the laptop with us to put the photo's on, due to space/weight. Thought about buying loads of SD cards or possibly a notebook to upload them on to. What do you do or recommend doing? Many Thanks BnB x |

I had considered taking a small second hand netbook, but many of them only have circa 160gb hard disks in them.. Easily upgraded, but more money... In the end I just kept my eye on Hot UK Deals and picked up a few cards when the offers came through.

the easiest way is multiple SD cards... enough so that you can swap them over every few days at least. but i wouldnt use this method on its own...
if youve got a phone or a tablet with plenty of storage, theres a good chance you could use that too... search for "ipad camera connection kit" or "USB OTG cable" for android (check your device is compatible) personally, i use multiple methods... swapping SD card every few days, backing up to my netbook every evening, which then uploads everything to my google drive and/or dropbox account. another option is the photo machines at the likes of walmart - you can back up your memory card and burn the contents to dvd also, it could be worth looking at an eye-fi card... its an SD card with built-in wifi. it means you can take photos, and when it is in range of an open access point (or one youve set up) it can upload the images taken to flickr/facebook/wherever. finally, you can get usb hard disks (or dvd burners) with built-in SD card slots, so you can potentially just stick the card in and back it up without the need for a laptop... hth |
