Take a look through my eyes, Pre travel and travel day 28th and 29th August 19.
Well, the day has finally arrived! We are actually going back to Disney! I have literally felt like I would explode with excitement the last week or so, well really for the last 12 months, but the excitement was rapidly building to a crescendo. Sometimes I feel like the anticipation is an event in itself, I then worry that I have peaked too soon if you understand what I mean? On the 28th August we drove to Manchester from Norwich and stayed overnight at the Radisson Blu hotel. I made a similar journey a couple of months ago and a 4 hour drive ended up taking 7 hours due to roadworks and an accident so we were not going to take any chances and had the car loaded and engine revved by 10:30, a whole 9 hours before we were due to drop the car of at the meet and greet car park at Manchester airport, did I mention I was keen? The journey was uneventful and no delays, we had stopped a few time to stretch our aching bones, not kids anymore! And have some food. I had downloaded quite a few episodes of the My dad wrote a Porno podcast to keep us entertained on the journey, it worked and the miles flew by. We checked the car in early without any problems and took advantage of the twilight check in with Virgin. I forgot to mention at the desk that we hadn't completed our APIs, it had completely slipped my mind, I had a bit of a panic later about this. Checked into the Radisson, had a treat with an executive room, with a huge bed, not that I was able to sleep much due to excitement. We thought we would try out the restaurant but they had no tables and an hour wait, so, carpet picnic it was. We wandered over to a different terminal and found a rather expensive Spar and bought some sandwiches and snacks to see us through the evening, we probably spent more than we would have done in the Radisson restaurant! It was around 9:30 when I remembered we hadn't completed our APIs or been asked for any information, so flapped for a bit, checked the app and we where all checked in fine. I posted the question on the dibb about twilight check in and APIs and Virgin picked up the tweet that gets sent out automatically when a new post is made. I didn't realise that this happened and thought that there were some greater forces at work! I sent them our booking details and they reassured us that they had all the info they needed and there was nothing to worry about. I mentally made a note to ask again in the morning prior to boarding. I think I managed about 4 hours sleep, I have made a note that I had some bizarre dreams, but for the life of me I cannot remember what they were though! We were in the restaurant for breakfast at 5am, no hot food till 5:30, so yoghurt and granola it was then. Through security by 7am, nearly lost my hand sanitiser that I forgot to put in a clear bag, then it was just waiting around till 9. This is the first time we have flown from Manchester and the airport isn't the nicest of places to hang out in and I regretted not booking a lounge. The time dragged! Finally called for boarding, I mentioned APIs again, and they checked my details and said that they had everything they needed. Still not sure how as they have no record of where we are staying and we booked a flight only with Virgin and AKL directly with Disney. Premium economy booked for this flight, also a first, I have now made the decision that I never want to turn right again on an aircraft! The PE cabin was empty, only contained 9 people! Just look at all the space! I didn't take any pictures of food, but it was ok, nice to have proper cutlery and china cups. Managed to watch half of about 3 films, couldn't concentrate on anything, dozed for a bit and before we knew it we had arrived! I did take the obligatory cloud photos though, you're welcome. Second off the plane and straight into an empty immigration hall, and, hang on to your hats, the nicest immigration officer ever! Where are you going he asked, Florida I said! Erm... Oh hang on, Walt Disney Animal Kingdom lodge. That was the only question and he told us to have a great vacation! There was a bit of a wait for the magical express but we finally boarded and travelled to our new home for the next three weeks. AKL lobby is breathtaking, it certainly has the wow factor, we checked in and were given our room number and magic bands. I'd put a room request in with Touring plans but didn't get anywhere near the room requested, we had a standard view and luckily we didn't over look the car park. We were allocated a ground floor refurbished room near the pool and the Mara, right beside the secret door I had read about, aside from the view we were happy with the location, we are in Florida, of course we are happy! We unpacked whilst listening to news about the impending hurricane Dorian. She travelled so slowly so this was all we watched when the tv was on. We then took a bus to Disney Springs to pick up our gift card, new ears, a new cap for John and have some well deserved food at the Earl of Sandwich. I had the holiday turkey and John had the Swiss melt, we also used a snack credit to get a side of Mac and cheese, dessert was a coffee Frappuccino from Starbucks. Jumped, well not so much jumped but wearily stepped onto the bus back the AKL, picked up our refillable mugs, showered, listened to some more Dorian updates before falling into a deep very contented sleep. Day one tomorrow at Magic Kingdom, so excited.

Thanks
sounds worse than it is, it’s certainly not for kids to listen to! It’s so funny and has us crying with laughter. A guy (Jamie Morton) discovered that his dad wrote a ‘raunchy’ book in his garden shed, he reads a chapter in each podcast episode. It’s toe curlingly cringy but so funny.

Ohhh sounds interesting, will check that out. I thought it was a typo or autocorrect at work as I’ve not heard of that before! 😂

interesting point about the APIs, we also flew with VA in Sept from manchester, done check in at the desk and didn't ask for our API either which i also thought was strange! We had a booked a package through virgin holidays that included our hotel so i thought they maybe got it that way. Only when i was getting on the plane it crossed my mind , but had no issues at the other end.
