tips for character meets

My DD is 11 but at 5'6 looks much older. She loves meeting characters and when we were in WDW last Christmas it was the highlight of the trip, especially the princesses who all joke about DS then 13 hiding in the back ground!

She is worried that they will think her too old, and with the usual chaos of DLP wont get to meet them and it's not just the princesses; if we see a character she wants to say hello!

Any tips most welcome

Tell her not to worry. My girls are 14 and 15 and love meeting the characters (as do I)
We always get a turn - as others have said recently, just smile and wait patiently. If you want to do lots of characters without queuing then your best bet is to do some character dining. All the fun without the hassle

My DS is 16 and on our hols he wore 'comedy' versions of Disney shirts... IE one has Snow White with a bandana over her mouth and wielding two pistols...

He met Snow White and she laughed so hard at it, and loved it. He was in fits of laughter too.

The princesses are IMO the best for older kids to meet as they interact in conversation very easily and it's great to hear them using things 'in character' in relation to real world stuff.

The meets at hotels are less crowded.

We did the Inventions Sunday brunch last week and had great interaction - and we don't have kids!

I think she'll be fine as it'll show in her eyes and they'll see it and interact with her!

on a slightly separate note - Gill, all this talk of the Inventions buffet is killing me - details please!

Age is irrelevant at Disney.

The magic is there, whoever and whatever you are.

In Walt's own words...

"You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."

I'm 42 and Mel is... well, older!

We have regualrly queued for characters - especially Mickey & Minnie and for Woodyfor Mel and Rapunzel for me!

That's good to hear, we all love meeting the characters, i know we aren't too old! It's just all the talk about scrums that has worried us.

DD once famously shouted at Tic and Tac to "GO AWAY" when she was in her buggy and they came up to her in Frontierland. A couple of days later we were watching the parade at the top of Main Street and it was really quiet, she was on her Dad's shoulders and the float with Minnie stopped right by us Minnie was waving and blowing kisses at her and that was it! A love of characters was born, and we spent the rest of the trip looking out for the rejected Tic and Tac!

Thanks again for the reassurances, oh and btw anyone know if Merida is at DLP, we missed her at WDW last Christmas.
