Four Points on a Fat Boy – Wednesday 1st – Saturday 11th August 2012

Cast members:

Me – Alanda – riding bikes for nearly 20 years now, but enjoying being pillion on this trip. Current bike is Harley Davidson 883 Sportster.
DH – Wiggy – riding bikes since just after he could walk I think - say over 35 years! Current bike Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

Day 9. John O’Groats – Fort William 188 miles

A short day planned mileage-wise, but a lot to see and we were soon packed up and on the road again after breakfast, taking the lower coast road this time – the A99 back towards Inverness – some interesting hairpin bends on this road – I could hear Wiggy chuckling to himself, as we rode round them.



We had a brew stop at Striach Services just outside Inverness, and filled up the tank so there would be no need to stop for petrol before Fort William. We took the A82 to Fort William, stopping several times alongside Loch Ness,



where I thought I saw a monster (might have been a duck)



at the picturesque Bridge of Oich





and then at Spean Bridge to see The Commando memorial.



We could see Ben Nevis from here, but the top was covered in cloud.



When we arrived at Fort William, there had been a fire in the Premier Inn we had booked so had to take a seat in the bar (shame) while they checked if our room was going to be habitable or not.



It was, and although the corridors smelt of smoke, our room didn’t so we unpacked and had a walk into town, down the High Street then back along the side of Loch Linnhe, before settling once again in the bar for a beer or too before tea.
