Question Hull to zebrugge ferry

We are taking this route next Saturday, have read the trip reports but just wondered a few other bits.

What is the check in procedure?

When does boarding commence?

Other than the 2 restaurants are there other food options..ie snacks, sandwiches etc

We are traveling with. 10 month old and a 6 yr old so just wanted to know a bit more in depth so I can plan for food, sleeps etc

we looked into it but for a cabin for 5 was too expensive so DH discounted it. However, from what I read when I was investigating it, a lot of people recommend eating before boarding and/or taking snacks onboard as apparently the restaurants aren't great and are expensive for what they are.

Afraid I can't help with anything else though, hopefully one day we will try this as a different route.

Checkin is just like boarding any ferry and is very quick and painless - just go queue up in the car and follow their instructions
There are some shops selling snacks etc and several bars on board, as well as a Costa Coffee shop (standard Costa prices & menu) but it generally is pricy to eat & drink onboard. We usually have a pub meal before boarding and take a picnic on board to keep us going.
We found the price to be a saving for us if we factored in the cost of petrol when driving to Folkestone and the overnight stays each side - we would definitely use the route again

the ferry is painless. If you arrive when checkin opens then expect to sit around in your car for a while. We went to McDs about 10 min drive from the ferry port till 45 mins before boarding closed. Parked at the end of the line and walked back to the terminal for last minute wee's. Actual car boarding only happened about 10 mins before final boarding time.

Onboard you get your room key, go to your room and do what you want. Beg guards can be ordered from the ferry onboard reception. Eating is expensive in the restaurants but we found the food to be very decent. We prebooked breakfast for Belgium side and wasn't disappointed - kept us going all the next morning. For the way back we packed small cereal boxes and got some fresh milk from a service station outside lille.

There aren't any facilities at the docks to speak of - especially in a car (something to think about if you have young "I need a wee now" ones). TomTom was great as it gave us point of interest service stops.

Drinks weren't too expensive onboard - no more than "town" in any case. There was entertainment and a mini-disco in the evening. Overall we packed plenty of dried food, sandwiches for journey out and cereals for homebound. Id definitely do the crossing again.

Thanks
We are planning to go to the aquarium during the day and get lunch there, then take sandwiches for on the ferry. We have pre booked breakfast.

Good to hear about the bed guard, our 6 yr old does tend to be very fidgety and roll out of bed a lot!

Ah, you mean The Deep. The Ferry dock is about a mile further down the same road. If you're coming into Hull on the M62/A63 you can't miss it.
As for boarding/check-in, in the past I've usually arrived 4.30-5.00pm for a 6.30 sailing.
