Orlando Basketball
Would it be feasible for my wife and I to have an evening out in Orlando at the same time as my son goes to watch the basketball. This would mean parking near to the basketball and walking, so the bars / restaurants would have to be nearby, not common in the States I know.

The Amway Center is 5 mins walk, going under the I4, from Church St where a lot of bars and restaurants are.
I have parked in 55 West garage before (you can pre book parking for sporting events and you can enter 2 hours before game starts) when going to Orlando City game and its just round the corner from all the bars/restuarants. You then cross the road and you are basically on the block on the other side of the I4 where Amway Center is. 5 mins walk tops. Definitely feasible, you will probably be no more than 10 mins walk away at any one point. Check Google Maps for Amway Center, 55 West garage and Church St and you will see how close they are to each other. |

Thanks for the information, I had googled the distances but local knowledge is useful as walking is sometimes not so easy in Florida. This sounds like a good night.

There are half a dozen multi-storey parking garages on the east side of the I-4, right next to where all the bars/restaurants/nightlife are, and just by exit 82B on the I-4. This is in fact the main parking for both the Amway Center and Orlando City too. Look at GoogleMaps for details of what is there. Event parking is $10 - pay on entry - no need to book in advance. The car park next to the Amway Center on the west side is the Geico garage and costs $20, so avoid that!
The other thing you might do in the downtown area if it is daylight is a stroll around Eola Lake - an attractive lake. They have a Farmers market there on Sunday mornings, although that doesn't fit in with Basketball games. |
