If you can eat or drink it...declare it... it’s really that simple.

I tend to buy what I need to take in one shop, so it’s all on the one receipt, tends to be tea, coffee and wheatabix, I declare them and show the receipt when we arrive, never been a problem, not been searched or held up

Anything you eat or drink should be declared... you declare it on the card the airline give you to complete ( think it's a customs declaration form)

And never take a Kinder Surprise! It's like a $10 million squillion fine.
No seriously, they are properly banned items.

We declare everything, the custom officers usually just wave you through when you tell them it's tea and roll their eyes. However, picture the scene. Someone has had a rotten day and have a wee nosy and find your tea bags. Then decide to go through you.

I'm a goodie though, so whilst some people are happy to go for it, I'm of the mindset that I would be the one caught.

Did you not ask him why he went against their official requirement to declare them?

To be fair, if you're in doubt, you check. This is exactly what they did do. Regardless of the law, asking the person who is letting you into the country why they didn't do their job correctly will probably end badly for the holidaymaker.

I'd still rather be laughed at repeatedly by customs officers than not declare and get the one person who doesn't agree.

You are correct, of course I forgot the smiley after my comment. Yes you don’t want to pee off the immigration officer.
Like you I’d fill in the form and happily let them rip it up if needed.
