AA Discount in Universal

Hi Dibbers

Hoping to get some clarification on this one. Every so often it comes up in the shopping forum but I can't find anything definitive recently. I understood you could get a 10% discount with your AA card on purchases made in Universal's theme parks. Then I'm sure I read it was only on purchases over a certain amount (not likely to be an issue tbh lol) then I read that the discount has stopped. I would like to hear from anyone who has used the card recently or been refused a discount. Would be useful to know one way or the other before we go.

Thanks

Was that recently though? When was it?

It is recently that it is 'meant' to have stopped. Have to say, I go next week and was wondering about this too.

AA are meant to get discount in GAP too btw but not even about that.

Didn't you have to print out a temp AAA card?

It's all a bit confusing!

I'd be interested to know this too! I've printed out my temp AAA card and have my AA member card too, but I'm confused where I can use it and what I can use it for! D'oh!

Interesting! We used it on everything in March, no matter how much or how little the bill was! I just made sure I showed them the card before the transaction was put through the till.

It'll be a shame if they've removed that particular benefit - Universal prices are not cheap!

You don't need the temporary AAA card, either - as long as you've got an up-to-date AA card with the symbol on the back, then that's all you need.

They wouldn't give me a discount in June. The lady said you had to buy your park tickets through AAA to receive the discount. I did receive the discount in the restaurants when I showed my card. I took a paper copy as well as my normal card.

I don't have my card to hand, but there's a blue and red interlocked rounded off rectangle symbol on the back with some wording on it. That's all they need.

Sorry, can you clarify what you weren't allowed it against?

When I booked RPR I did it over the phone and told her I wanted my AA discount. She told me what the discount would be, and all I had to do was show them my card at check-in to prove my discount.

To get the discount on park tickets you do have to buy them at the gate, she told me. I tried to get discount against the special offer they were doing, but was told over the phone that this wouldn't be possible as they can't do 'double discount'.

I think the discount in the shops stopped just before we went at the end of May/June. I know others had posted on the AA card thread. I thought I would try my luck in the Universal store but the lady said they no longer accepted the card for discounts unless you had bought your park tickets through AA and had the voucher. I did successfully use the card in the restaurants, well Margaritaville, I forgot to hand it over in Bubba Gumps!
