$ bills expiring

Does anyone know if any of the $ notes are due to change or expire. We travelled in September 2016 and i have $200 still at home we are visiting again in 2019 so i might as well hold on to them. Just like GB i am sure other countries change their money from time to time. Last thing i want is to turn up with a load of money that is no longer legal tender. I did ask at the travel agents booked the staff had no idea.

I don't think they plan on retiring any bills.

Just checked with my friend in Seattle, and it's not an issue. And come to think of it, I did notice a couple of old-style non-coloured bills in my spends this year!

She did say the biggest issue you'll find is people forgetting that $2 bills are a real thing!

It's rare to see the US retire a note from circulation (mainly because so much of their paper currency is overseas e.g. south east Asia where it can be used as a secondary currency)

The US based it's economy on the fact the dollar is safe and secure, retiring a note would be an admission that it wasn't

The last significant currency retirement in the US was in the 1940s

They do however purge old style notes as they go through the system and replace with newer ones - but if you hold an old one it seems to be almost always spendable
