DS2 travels on a Visa last 3 times he's been waiting with the cases while the rest of us are stuck using the kiosks first time they did take him aside but through in 10 mins in June they asked we'll have you finished your degree and wished him well when he said yes

I have a visa and it totally depends on the airport. LAX I waited for like 3 hours, Vegas was about 2 hours 30. Orlando I arrived around 9:30pm, and I got taken aside and the wait was around 10-15mins max.

So I think it depends on how busy the airport is

You can't use your phone or anything electronic whilst waiting, so be prepared if you are waiting for him. I always arrange to meet who I'm traveling with at the luggage carousels after, and tell them it could be a while.

I also take something to read, just in case I'm there waiting for 2 hours or so

Depending on why he required visa he may/may not be pulled to one side for a chat, it's that piece of string again with immigration/secondary. Hopefully he'll breeze on through.

We obtained B2 visa's in 2012 enabling us to SW Fl winter for 179 days, with the exception of an IO keystroke error, corrected in secondary on year later, we've had no issues.

According to the official video, B1, B2 and D visas can use the APC kiosks along with those with ESTAs, provided they have been once since 2008 (assuming the kiosks are in use when you arrive - sometimes not the case).
