Mobile Car Hire - Book now or wait

Just looking at Alamo car hire for our trip at end Sept/start Oct and wondering if it’s better to book now or wait? Does car hire cost fluctuate or does it stay pretty static?

Are you looking direct at Alamo or via Alamo Brits?

alamo/brits

They've been the cheapest for my last 3 recent trips and if price goes down you can rebook at the lower price and get a refund for the original booking... so you're safe either way.

Yes I’m looking at Alamo Brits. So even if you book and pay upfront you can cancel and get a refund and rebook?

Yes. They used to refund the difference. But it's changed now. You have a new booking if the price comes down and they refund the original.

Too many offer free cancellations or ammendments to take the risk. Book early!

If you are happy with the price I would book now, My October trip has gone up a fair bit since I booked.

Book early is my advice. Not least because you will likely get free cancellation. I do find price rises later you leave it.

Last year we had to cancel our original flydrive booking with BA due to the hurricane in September and flew out the following week.
We rebooked with Autoeurope (Alamo) about 4 days before we flew and paid £380 for a full size car for 19 days.
We are going for 24 days this year and only booked flights about 2 weeks ago. I've now started looking at SUV prices and the best I've seen is Netflights last week at £575. Checking today the price is £616.
Autoeurope slightly more expensive.
As others have said you can book with a company that offers free cancellation and then take advantage if price drops.
Also, keep looking in the dibb as you may be able to take advantage of 'glitches' with car hire companies.
