Reasurrance pls

Hi all. My grandson is 9.months old. My daughter is concerned about his gross motor development.

He held his head strongly at a very young age and sat unsupported at 5 months but he makes absolutely no attempt whatsoever to roll over. She has done everything advised to encourage him but he does not seem to know where to start. If you roll him part way he cannot pull his arm from under himself. He recently started to turn in a circle whilst sitting up and wants to hold your hands and walk all the time. He puts his hands up to indicate he wants to walk and then pulls himself up with help. He walks well with holding two hands but is not ready to walk independently yet. Understand that is fine. It’s just the rolling that is a worry.

Has anyone else experienced their child not rolling but going on to develop their gross motor skills normally.

Thank you.

My two boys did nothing in the right order, he sounds like he's going to be an early walker. My daughter did everything by the book but as she was the third one I was less worried anyway.

If she is worried she should contact the Health Visitor or her GP so the baby can be examined.

Really information from an internet forum is not useful when the services are there to help. No one here can see how the baby reacts or examine them.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but I wouldnt want someone to say it's fine and you not seek help if its needed.

My eldest never crawled... but she would sit on her bottom and hitch her way around and then she walked at 10 months old.
Please don't be too concerned, It sounds as if your grandson has control over the actions he wants to do atm and babies progress at their own pace.
I'm sure that one day he will surprise you all and roll over in a fashion that suits his own way of doing things.

edit to add: The previous poster who suggested asking the health visitor has a valid point. Sorry if my post came across as flippant.

I’m no expert but it sounds to me like he just will skip a stage ? Whilst many children do things in order, many don’t and it can be very concerning if you read loads on what they should do and they aren’t! Have a chat to the health visitors but also know if he’s griping and holding his weight in other ways maybe he just won’t ever roll! I would be cautious about letting him try to walk though and take all his weight. 9months is still a bit young for that I think?

I agree that an online forum is the wrong place to seek proper reassurance about this matter. You have two better options. Book an appointment with the Health Visitor. Or. Pay and get an assessment from a private physiotherapist or similar. We can all give you memories about our own children which will be valid but not necessarily remotely helpful. I had a baby who stood up and walked, confidently, at 10 months. Barely crawled. Was riding a bike with pedals ridiculously early. I had a child who would not put their feet flat way after they should have done. Told by my local HV ‘not to worry’. She was too busy counting her days to retirement to worry about Jack S. Paid for one private specialist appointment to discover I was right and my child had a very specific issue. Resolvable with early but heartbreakingly painful physio. Potentially life changing without. I’m trying to be helpful. Pay for an assessment from someone who knows exactly what they are doing. Changed my daughters life.

If you are worried I would get a professional opinion to ease your concerns. My DD now 21 never crawled and wouldn't entertain the idea. She also never rolled over. When we tried to encourage her and placed her on her tummy she screamed the place down due to hating being on her tummy x
