Driveway/Blocked Paving Costs

We are looking to replace our existing concrete driveway infront of our garage and extend out across the front garden. Due to an extension to the side of our house the whole front is fairly large at approx. 90sq m so to keep costs down I have just had the chap who did my patio last year round who recommended only doing 50sq m and retaining some grass - which I am happy about as we are one of the few houses round here who still have some green at the front!

Has anyone got any ideas about the cost for a 50sq m area? Probably block paving but am interested in hearing about other experiences/ideas.

Thanks SMAX - a very useful guide and not far off my thoughts. The comments are dated 2017 so prices may well have increased since then but useful nonetheless 👍

Simon is there or thereabouts on cost I would say.
Of course the cost will always vary depending on how much to remove, how much to build up etc. Aco drains also can boost the cost somewhat but they are mostly plastic now so a lot cheaper than 10+ years ago.
I agree about keeping grass to break up the starkness of the drive. Failing that maybe an area of stone on a membrane.

The only issue with grass is the mower blows grass bits over the drive, that then stick in the joints and lead to moss forming. Not hard to manage though.

Oh hello! I’ve just been seeking out an old post from you - see above

I’ve been telling Col about my discussion with the contractor and neither of us is keen on splitting the drive in half using sleepers as a divider/retainer so we may look into doing more of an 80/20 split with an area of stone on a membrane with some plants maybe, eg, cordeline or lavender etc

Maybe use a line of kerbsetts to give a permanent definitive line between the blocks and the gravel. That’s what I have done and I have 3 tubs on the gravel with shrubs in them. An Acer, a skimmia and a small conifer.
