Uk holiday problems
Hi,
Currently have a week booked in the UK in October with family members but total party number is 8. I contacted the holiday company last night about options and they are strongly suggesting that I reduce the numbers - I’ve got back to them and said that asking people to no longer come isn’t an option, when this was the sole purpose of booking this holiday and this property. What are my rights, if any? It seems like it’s all in favour of the property owner and from previous comments I’d seen this year, this company doesn’t tend to refund. |

I would think this may be a holiday insurance claim ? The owner wont and shouldnt care if you booked for 1, 2 or 8 - in law that’s not their problem so without any good will I would speak with my holiday insurers today and see what options they give you

I think you may need to try insurance as well. I have booked a self catering week in two weeks time. Its a three bedroom but only myself and my husband are due to go. The price was the same regardless of how many would be in the property and the intention of the break was never asked for so didnt form part of the contract for booking. The company can still supply the cottage and you can comply with the law in reducing the number going but dont want to so the only real remedy would be to try insurance. Its definitely worth a try in my opinion.

I don’t think this is on the property owner at all or that you have any rights, the property is still available to you. I am not convinced insurance would pay out either, as it seems more of a disinclination to go ahead, but you might as well try.
I think I would probably be trying to salvage something even if some people do have to drop out. |

If you have booked a property then how you use it is down to you. As such I would not expect the property owner to refund you, so it sounds like you need to either look to insurance or decide to break the law (this is a personal choice).

We’re allowed to use the money paid against same property next year so that’s a good outcome. Also trying to see if we’re allowed to split the week and family come and go so there’s never more than 6 people in the property at the same time.
We would never break the law and the company know the name and ages of all the party so can’t allow all of them to go. I get it but trying to choose who can’t come - which was the companies first response, is not an easy or fun decision. |

What an awful situation to be in of course you don’t want to exclude people it was booked so you could all spend time together. We have a similar situation there are 10 of us all adults we split the cost between us so if 4 didn’t come it would be more expensive per person. Our accommodation is in Wales and at the moment different rules apply so fingers crossed but we all know that can change in a heartbeat.
