Disney tickets question

We’ve decided we won’t be getting Magic Bands.
The travel agent has said our tickets will “activate” when we check in.
Does that mean they’ll be plastic, credit card type tickets?

If you go to the check-in desk they will give you the plastic credit card size tickets that will open your room doors and get you into the parks.

We used them for a few days before collecting our free magic bands at Disney springs.

You can also use the Disney App and the likes of Apple Wallet on iPhones and Apple watches. I used my iPhone and I didn't even have to unlock my phone to use it. Just tapped my phone on the readers. Apple watches work the same.

You can also use your phone to unlock your resort room door. We just used the online checkin and went straight to our room.

Technically, as far as parks, they won't activate until the date you stated for them starting- so for instance we arrive 8th Sept but are going to Universal first so our Disney tickets don't activate until the 11th but we will obviously have MB/KTTW card on the 8th IYKWIM
