Disney cancels Brightline Rail Station

Even as Disney was constructing the Disney Springs station that would provide rail transportation from the airport to Disney, they abruptly cancelled after a Universal stop on International Drive was funded earlier this month. So no clean rail system to Disney and more car parking fees for Bob Chapek.

Here's a non-paywalled version of the article. The article implies that the planned route of the line was changed following criticism from local residents and businesses. It also suggests that there will still be a station close to Disney property, if not actually on it.

Kinda seamed a stupid idea to take guests to Disney springs with a load of bags and then get them to resort hotels from there.

The new route that Universal wants is to go via SR528 to the I4 then down to Tampa at twice the cost orignal cost. The original route was via the 417 to the I4. The new route will take twice as long if not longer as the trains will not be able to run at high speeds due the the vast number of level crossings needed on the route. The 417 route would have had none.

The Walt Disney Company has pulled out of its plans to facilitate the extension of a SunRail/Brightline train line from Orlando International Airport to Tampa.

Disney joined in the ambitious rail project at a time that the route plan included a possible stop at Disney Springs, with the rail line crossing Walt Disney World Resort property. That Disney Springs stop and routing has been removed from the most-recent plans for the project.

Well Disney have decided to derail Brightlines train route to Tampa via Disney Springs

Disney has canceled its plans for a Brightline route from the airport to Disney Springs. According to Orlando Business Journal, Disney representatives confirmed this cancelation.

Personally, I think this is a bad move on Disney’s part.

But given that they openly said they weren’t going to contribute in any way towards it, then you’ve got the likes of Universal donating land for a station and so on.

Oh well, only time will tell.

Brightline have said there will still be a station near Disney springs just not directly on Disney property anymore.

Same, with rising costs and traffic levels this would appeal to many staying on property. Without a car it keeps them there too.
