Filming your trip... hints and tips please

On our last trip we filmed our holiday using a handheld camcorder and my DS's waterproof camera was used in the villa pool and waterparks. This time (partly because DS's camera doesn't work and I love the fun of filming underwater), I'm looking at getting a 'GO Pro' style camera. As well as regular and pool filming, this can also be used on rides such as Splash and Kali Rapids, and I'd only need the one camera.
What tips and experiences can you share with me regarding use of such a camera? Obviously selfie sticks (hate them!) aren't allowed in parks, so do you handhold or attach via headband or chest strap. All info most appreciated

If you are going to film everything I wouldnt recommend doing it all on a gopro.

GoPro's film at a really wide angle and I find the footage difficult to watch for large periods of time. We use a mix of Sony mirrorless cameras and GoPro for when its wet!

We took an action cam with us last time, it was the SJCam and you can get it on amazon. Its basically a cheap version of a gopro and worked well for us.
I would say that it wasn't the best for general holiday filming because the shot was so wide. A normal camera or camcorder would be better for that. But it was great for rides and water parks.

Also you can get a handhold for the action cams. It looks like a really short selfie stick, just a few inches long. But it attaches to the bottom of the action camera which makes it easier to hold and shoot with.

Just so you are aware also, some GoPros do offer in settings the ability to change the Field Of View (FOV) from wide angles to narrow. People do tend to forget you can turn off the nauseating 180 degree views with them. I am interested in the 360 degree cameras that Samsung offer as well...anyone had any dealings with one yet? That would make an almost certain entertaining video!

The later versions also have linear which gives a much more natural FOV.
