Japan Questions

We are thinking of trying Japan, however after discovering there is no smoking ban like the US it is really putting us off.

I can see that Disney and Universal both have designated smoking areas but what about the hotels and restaurants etc.

Also we enjoy visiting the shopping outlets and Disney Springs, does Japan have anything like this?

I was thinking of something like 5 days at tokyo (Disney) then getting the train to spend 5 days in osaka (universal). Does that sound sensible?

Didn't notice anyone smoking in Japan or Tokyo Disney actually , you'd think there was a ban , Paris however is awful for it .
Tokyo Disney is amazing and full of giggly teen girls dressed in the cutest outfits all themed for Disney like true pro's . It's amazing for people watching and the merchandise there is the best Disney stuff I've ever seen , everything is so different and wonderful . I wouldn't hesitate in going again

Didn't really notice anyone smoking while in Japan Disney either, and I'm usually very sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke.

There's a shopping mall right next to the Tokyo Disneyland train station.

I think I preferred the merch available in the US parks to Tokyo, felt that Tokyo stuff was a lot of Duffy (I love Duffy though) and very food centric...

Tokyo Disneyland and Disney sea are amazing parks and definitely worth a visit!

Thanks for your response, the ticket prices seem pretty reasonable, its the hotel prices that seem a bit pricey.

Where did you guys stay?

You can basically smoke at any drinking places, like bars or izakaya(drinking restaurants). Some cafes have smoking areas inside. When you go to normal restaurants, most of them don't have smoking areas or allow indoor smoking.

People in Japan obey the rules and so if an area has a smoking zone they will smoke there

You will be able to count on one finger the number of people smoking during walking or outside a shop etc unlike in the UK where people just don't give a toss

Smoking is not allowed on many streets and in all train stations

In our visit we only came across one restaurant that had both smoking and non and we were asked for our preference

I do believe smoking is not allowed at disney but if you get there you see how people behave in the most courteous country in the world

Coming back to the UK for me was a severe shock at just how disrespectful our country is

We rented a lovely little house called the pencil house in shinjuku , thru air BnB lovely Aussie couple owned it who met us and took us there and explained how everything worked and good tips to get around local info etc , they own lots of properties in Tokyo was a great service ! Lovely 3 story little skinny funky house with a balcony , we all had our own rooms and it was cheaper than the hotels ! Loved it , felt like a local . We only did one Disney day and spent time exploring all the surrounding areas like harajuku , the anime areas , shibuya , yo yogi park etc , was such a fantastic trip, loved every minute , the Japanese were so friendly and helpful everywhere we went , full of smiles and warmth

We were in Tokyo in May and have no recollection of any smoking issues whatsoever. Disney has a shopping area called Ikspiari, which I suppose is their nearest equivalent to Disney Springs, although it's not at all similar. It has restaurants and a food court, plus lots of shops.
We stayed at the Shinjuku Hilton, followed by the Disneyland Hotel. Would have to agree, neither was particularly cheap but they were both lovely. Park tickets are definitely a bargain vs Orlando prices.

I stayed at the Sheraton which is one of their partner hotels and is close to a stop on the Disney monorail (you have to pay for the monorail though). You can either walk or take an approximately 2 minute shuttle ride to the monorail station from the Sheraton. One of their floors (ocean dream rooms I think) had been refurbished when I stayed there in 2015 and the rooms were great, nice and large.

Heard good things about the Hilton there as well.
